ABOUT ME

My Portfolio

The first selection I chose to share is a collage of pictures I have taken around the world and from the various, political protests I have attended. The pictures are a mere sampling of the eighteen countries and dozens of activist events that I have experienced. For me, these photos demonstrate the way I am able to use photography to capture intercultural understanding and the power of social activism. Secondly, I included a monologue I wrote. The piece discusses the way people cope with past trauma and the prevalence of mental illness in today's society. I performed the script to my community.  Finally, the video is a collaboration of some key clips from the short film I made about gender inequality and, specifically, girls' education worldwide. Some clips were recorded on a program I was accepted into for the American Civil Liberties Union. It was designed to train young activists. However, most of the footage was from my service trip to Malawi, where I interviewed over a dozen students about their educational experience. For me, media is a platform to tell stories. I first heard the quote I included at the National Student Diversity Leadership Conference, where I was selected as one of only five students to represent my school. Without stories, progress will not be made because no one can relate to mere statistics. They need to hear about inequality and persecution from individuals and see these issues with their own eyes. It is for these reasons that I want to work in the media, because I believe it is the most effective avenue to do just this. This online portfolio is a small selection of the many various ways in which I have used photography, screenwriting, and videos to further equality in the world on a global scale.
